Peter Downey

Peter has had a very wide experience in business over a long period of time. He entered the tourism industry in 2006 after he retired from his contracting business and renovated ‘Riverside Paradise’ on the banks of the River Shannon in south east Galway. That same year, Peter joined the ISCF as a member and has learned so much through networking with like-minded people. Peter has been an active member on many committees and has chaired a number of them, both in business and within his local community in Blanchardstown, Dublin where he lives.

This is Peter’s first year as chairperson of the ISCF. His aim this year has been to strengthen the structures of the Federation to be a more proactive representative and lobbying organisation on behalf of all ISCF members nationwide. This has been reinforced by ISCF’s membership of the European Holiday Home Association (EHHA) and the regular online conference meetings with the other EHHA members.

Howard Knott

The Cottage Dublin

Howard and Hilary welcomed their first guests to The Cottage in 2006. For most of its 250 year history the cottage, standing in the foothills of the Dublin mountains overlooking Dublin Bay, had been a family home, but in more recent times and prior to a major renovation it had been used for stabling horses.  The renovation was carried out with self-catering holidays in mind and in consultation with the Tourism bodies from whom it received four star approval. Howard and Hilary first used the Gulliver booking engine to manage their bookings before switching to Let’s Go Self-Catering . This booking engine, in combination with their own website (www.thecottagedublin.com) has proven to be a very successful and simple way of managing all aspects of the booking process for visitors and owners alike.

Howard is a member of the executive council of the Irish Self Catering Federation and is a consultant to the Irish Exporters association on the area of Supply Chain and international trade. He is also a columnist and writer on Maritime related affairs for a number of publications including Fleet Transport.
